Confusingly, this was made for American television in England, but shown theatrically in Europe. Anyway, it has such odd late '60s/ early '70s touches as David wandering the beach, haunted by voices from his past. I tuned out before most of the recognizable cast showed up. (Edith Evans was a marvelous Lady Bracknell in 1952's The Importance of Being Earnest, and was about 81 at the time of appearing here as Aunt Betsey.) Delbert Mann directed around the time he did Jane Eyre, which also featured 19th-century child abuse.
