I think I read one of the later books of the series this is based on-- written by Sarah Mlynowski, Lauren Myracle, and Emily Jenkins-- but I don't remember much about it.  So I was going in mostly blind to this, and I found it sweet, charming, and sometimes funny.  The acting and special effects could be better, but, well, it is a TV-movie for kids.  Joe Nussbaum directed.
