Bill Gallagher's story (his only one for D & P, although it's possible we'll run into his work again) ends up being my favourite of Series Eight, with the way it examines family and work, especially with its presentation of five very different mothers, including Dawn's mum, who's a hoot. One mother, Marion Mattis, is played by Alison Steadman, yes, Mrs. Bennet in the '95 Pride & Prejudice.
This is Paul Marcus's second of two he directed of D & P. Note that Andy Dalziel is threatened with a desk job, but the programme would run another four series. The eighth series averages C+ and I'd be willing to watch more, but this was all that was on the shelf at the time.
