Most of this is about joyless sex, or at least joyless pursuit of sex, with the one of exception of Michael and his new boyfriend the doctor.  At one point, DeDe goes to a society luncheon where they're "rapping about rape," and when put on the spot, turns her pathetic seduction of a delivery boy into a story of rape.  I would've gone with a D+ but Michael/Jon were kind of cute together.  I think the books work to the extent that they do because we're not meant to take them too seriously, but seeing real people struggle to make this material believable (even on a soap opera level) is a bit painful.
