I don't know why they keep making jokes about Lionel being violent, here with Jean saying it'd be "nice" if he wanted to kill her ex-lover and her. But the old flame is extinguished anyway, in the sense that the man Jean dated when Judith was 8 and her first husband, David, had recently died, is now a pathetic old drunk. I'll watch another episode, but I hope that the violent humour stops, particularly since it clashes with the gentle tone the show generally has.
Oh, and I just checked and Sandy is not Jean's daughter but Sandy's best friend who lives with them. This makes it a little less creepy that Lionel would've looked at her if she'd worn a suggestive "St. Trinian's costume." (Do an image search and you'll understand.)
