The DVD collection is a 50th anniversary one, with only 18 episodes (not counting the "audition"), but this does happen to be the first to air. It is a smoother, tighter (eight minutes shorter) version of that audition show, with the happy addition of eventually semi-ubiquitous character actor Allan Melvin, then 33, as Cpl. Steve Henshaw.

Other regular cast:
- Tiger Andrews as Pvt. Gander
- Bern Bennett as the Announcer
- Harry Clark as MSgt. Stanley Sowici
- Herbie Faye as Cpl. Sam Fender
- Bernie Fein as Pvt. Gomez
- Paul Ford as Col. John T. Hall
- John Gibson as the nameless Chaplain
- Maurice Gosfield as Pvt. Duane Doberman
- Jack Healy as Pvt. Mullen
- Paul Lipson as Pvt. Tony but later in other roles
- Jimmy Little as MSgt. Francis Grover
- Karl Lukas as Pvt. Stash Kadowski
- Jim Perry as Lt. Anderson
- Billy Sands as Pvt. Dino Papparelli
- P. Jay Sidney as Pvt. Palmer
Michael Dreyfuss as Pvt. Higgins seems to have carried over from the audition show but he'd only do one more episode. Perhaps his military-school straight-arrowness just didn't fit with Bilko's platoon in the long run. Al De Caprio directed this and it looks like the rest of the series.
