Matthew and William go missing, although they turn up in the end, during a concert at Downton, a bit cheesy, but it works. Meanwhile, Mary finds out about Sybil's "romance" with Branson, Mr. Bates returns to Downton, Cora and Isobel have a big enough fight that Isobel leaves for France, and Mrs. Bird starts a secret soup kitchen. The cliffhanger though is that although Ethel has been sacked after being caught in bed with a soldier, she turns to Mrs. Hughes for help when she finds out she's pregnant.
