The police are closing in on this penultimate episode. Ned joins the Army, but poor Mrs. Bronowski is in prison, for infanticide by the closing credits. Meanwhile, Mr. Fowler (butler at Lydia's house) is an all around awesome and decent fellow, and we see more of the babies than usual. (I didn't even realize the youngest St. John was a girl until now.) In fact, Mrs. St. John is pregnant and considers abortion, but reconciles with her husband, unaware that Capt. Mason has been forbidden to see Isabel because of his debts. Note that Wednesday's child in the rhyme is full of woe.
This episode introduces Shaun Prendergast as Detective Pearson and Laura Cox as Irene, who'd both be in the final episode. So would Richard Garnett, who looked awfully familiar as Dr. Henderson and turns out to be one of the Gussie Fink-Nottles from the '90s Jeeves and Wooster. Richard Holthouse is this episode's director.
