Kenneth Johnson wrote and directed this so I assume that he's responsible for the cheesiness that brings some relief from the dullness and thus saves this from a straight D.  I knew of the series at the time but had no interest in it then or later.  I'm tagging Clete Roberts, as the only person I recognized in the first quarter hour.  And I'm reluctantly adding "based on a book," because it's vaguely inspired by Sinclair Lewis's It Can't Happen Here.
