Peter and Charles are still gone, but John's back.  Some of the "kids" are grandparents as they push 50, and even Bruce has a couple midlife children now.  Nick's marriage has crumbled, although not as quickly as Apted expected, but Nick has remarried, as has Sue.  Paul and Symon (now spelled "Simon") reunite, with their wives, in London, while Bruce and Neil's friendship has faded away.  Bruce now teaches in a posh school rather than in the East End or Bangladesh, while Tony has failed to see the irony in his plans to move to Spain because the East End has too many immigrants.  And it seems like there are more references to the government (with Tony Blair as Prime Minister) than in any installment since 28.
