This episode, the first of four written by the very Scottishly named Stuart Hepburn, is most notable for the introduction of Shirley Henderson as Isobel Sutherland.  It's obvious, especially with hindsight, that Isobel is infatuated with Hamish and he's oblivious, but beyond that, I like the intelligence and playfulness of her character.  The mystery involves death threats received by a meddling outsider played by Phyllida Law, yes, Emma Thompson's mother.

Dolina MacLennan makes her first of five appearances as Flora.  Ken Drury would return as Cameron Dicks.  Drunk Highlander Bill Little would later be a Wedding Person, both uncredited.  Jimmy Chisholm is a Tartan Salesman here but would play Christie McMurray.  The Incredible Fling Band would again appear as the Ceilidh Band.  Wee Girl Kay McLean would later be "Kay"
