I'm going with the American release date, since I watched the dubbed version, where the dad calls Laura "Pumpkin" and the mom accidentally calls her by the dog's name.  This is the first episode of the very long-running series and I've certainly seen worse children's programs for this project and otherwise, but I wasn't exactly drawn in either.  Oddly enough, as with Hamish Macbeth, there's a romantic triangle, although Hamtaro seems unaware that when he and his friends serenade the Boss's crush, she winks at Hamtaro for a reason.
