The best thing here is Fry as a headmaster questioning teen poet Laurie. I'm not going to finish out this first series, or check out the second one, since it's now at a C average. I know that Fry and Laurie, separately and together, can be very funny, but when they write their own material, they get very insular and self-indulgent, as here when Benjamin Whitrow (later of Pride & Prejudice) plays an Angry Audience Member who lays claim to writing several of their sketches. Maybe this is more meta than I'm aware of, but it doesn't work for me. Oh well, we'll probably see F & L again.
