Woody and I have had enough of Bill, although he of course returns by the end. I almost went with a C-, what with Bill "abusing" a guy like John Fiedler and calling the (black) makeup man an idiot and then, when Newdell turns out to be an idiot, calling the Max Wright character a bigot. I wonder what this show would've been like if there had been a strong personality against Coleman. (Like Meathead was to Archie Bunker. Or for that matter, like the three women in 9 to 5 or Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie.) At times it seems like Cassidy will come through, but Jo Jo's got some dysfunctional relationship with him. Well, they all do, and that goes for the critics. Still, it's a better '83 show than The A-Team.
This time Jim Drake directed, while Jay Tarses wrote the script alone, although I assume Patchett was still busy behind the scenes. Note that there's a certain irony to Bill's line about Wendy still believing in democracy, since a much more sure of herself Geena Davis would play the President on Commander in Chief.)
