This was the funniest episode in awhile, which I realize sounds weird, but some of the banter between Alec & Ellie I mean, like about food. (She looks visibly crushed when he refuses the caterer's offer a treat.) They're still investigating Trish's rape, but the number of suspects isn't narrowing down. Meanwhile, Mark wants to pursue justice against Joe, but Beth and Chloe want him to drop it and move on. And we a glimpse of Ellie's dad, who provides some of the other humour. Speaking of dads, I can't remember if it was this episode or the previous one where we found out that the Lenny Henry character is the father of one of the police on the case and she seemed to be giving him secret information.
Becky Brunning debuts as Lindsay Lucas, wife to the cabbie, and she would be in all the remaining episodes. Deon Lee-Williams plays her son (by another man), Michael, who's mates with Tom and was suspended from school with him for distributing pornography. (Yes, Ellie was furious, sorry I left that out before.) Matthew Hopkinson would return once more as Alex the Muso, as would Charles Babalola as Chaz the Cook. Richard Hope would be back twice as Arthur Tamworth. (And he was in Brideshead Revisited 36 years earlier as Lt. Hooper, but I don't know if he appeared in the portion I watched.) This is also the first of three times we'll see Jasper Meehan as Daniel and Aaron May as Charlie. Charlotte Lucas (no relation to the Austen character) plays Sarah Elsey for the first of two times.
