Well, I didn't see this coming, although I can't say it came completely out of nowhere.  There were hints, like the way that Joe Miller tried to interfere when his son talked to the police, but I certainly didn't suspect that Joe was "in love with" Danny!  He confesses to the murder, to Alec, who is visibly torn up about what this will do to Ellie.  (And, yes, her wondering how Susan could miss what was happening in her own house becomes even more sadly ironic.)  In the end, Ellie plans to move to another town with her two sons and begin a new life, while Alec is off the force because he hid his health problems from their superior. And yet, instead of "The End" the screen says, "Broadchurch will continue."  I look forward to seeing how the next series goes.  This one ranges B to A- and averages out to an incredibly impressive B+ (a low B+, but still).
