Britta Lundin's first of six and Brian E. Paterson's first of seven episodes is set on and around Jughead's birthday, and involves an "inner circle" party that is ruined by Cheryl and a recently returned Chuck.  Jughead has doubts about his relationship with "perfect" Betty, although the revelation of her dark side seems to be oddly comforting.  Meanwhile, Veronica and Archie kiss again after Val insists it's over.  And Archie's mom, Mary (Molly Ringwald), shows up in the last few minutes.  Not that the mystery is ignored, but it's not the most important thing here.

Dawn Wilkinson would direct two more episodes.
