Also, Siu Hun Li would return as the Ferry Chef but he's uncredited. If Man on Beach Ralph Riach looks familiar, it's because he was TV John McIver on Hamish Macbeth about twenty years earlier.
This reminded me of Broadchurch in that the characters are at least as important as the mystery, and the scenery is stunning, although scenery and characters are very different here of course. I'm not saying this will necessarily be on the level of Broadchurch, but I knew instantly that this was one of the best shows I'd seen in awhile, admittedly not with much competition lately. Although this kicks off the third year of the show, I didn't really have trouble getting my bearings about the relationships of the regulars, although there may be nuances I'm missing. As for the mystery, it's a good one (and not overly gory, despite a corpse) and I'm definitely curious to see how it plays out.
This is one of seven Shetland episodes written by Gaby Chiappe and one of six written by Robert Murphy, and the series is based on the books of Ann Cleeves. Thaddeus O'Sullivan directed the next two as well.
