This is a melodramatic ending to a sometimes melodramatic series, the capper being Mrs. Brazendale cutting her wrists when May refuses to sign over the baby.  While I like the sisterly bond and other elements, here and on other episodes, ultimately Lilies is better than most but not as good as it could be.  It ranges from C to B- and averages to a C+.  Still, if they'd made a second series, I would've liked to have found out if Father Melia left the priesthood for Iris, who thinks his feelings are platonic.

Brian Kelly would later direct Downton Abbey and Inspector Lewis.
