Joshua Hamilton wrote this episode (his first of fifteen), while Ian Graham directed (also his first of fifteen), and it's the best so far, with sometimes stunning visuals and a strong story.  Korra's uncle convinces her to open the spirit portal at the conveniently near (maybe a day's journey) South Pole, but by the end of the episode it becomes clear, to the viewer although not to Korra, that her uncle has ulterior motives.  We also get some backstory on her father, who was banished from the North.  Meanwhile, Tenzin and his family travel to a lovely air temple and he's got his own sibling issues.
