In this David Davis & Lorenzo Music story (their first of seven and eight respectively, and, yes, Music is Rhoda's future doorman), Lou puts Mary in charge of an election night special, but she has trouble exerting her authority, a contrast to sixth- and seventh-season Mary (which I think I have a clearer image of). This is one of the early episodes where Rhoda mentions her crush on Ted, although I don't remember if he ever found out.
This time, Richard Schaal is the first person to portray Chuckles the Clown. (Gordy the Weatherman is referred to but not seen.) Robert Buckingham has his first of three uncredited roles, as a Crew Member.
