The title references a That Girl episode written by James L. Brooks (reviewed here https://reviewingeverytvshowiown.blogspot.com/2015/12/that-girl-christmas-and-hard-luck-kid.html ), although I doubt viewers got that at the time.  This episode he wrote with Allan Burns is superior, giving Mary a range of emotions to play and showing that, although she can't be home with her biological family*, Rhoda and the men at work care about her and want to spend the holiday with her.  (Phyllis will be with Lars and Bess of course.)  Note that there's the first reference to Rhoda being Jewish, with Phyllis mentioning Hanukkah.

This time Henry Corden provides the voice of Charlie, while Ned Wertimer, who plays Fred, would be recognizable later in the decade as the Jeffersons' doorman, Ralph Hart.

*Four hours "up," presumably north, although that would probably place them in Canada.  Maybe her parents live near the border and/or she's driving less than 50 MPH, especially since she promises her mother to drive carefully.  Or maybe it's not due north.
