While this isn't a comedy classic, it is an improvement over the '58 version.  All those extra neighbors are omitted and things are tightened up.  Still, it takes eleven minutes to get to Ed talking, and we don't get any lyrics on the theme song.  I'll mention here that I'm watching a "Best Of" collection, so we may not be going in chronological order, however long I stick with this.  But, as the title indicates, this is the first episode proper.

Regular cast:

  • "Mr. Ed as Himself"
  • Connie Hines as Carol Post
  • Larry Keating as Roger Addison
  • Allan Lane as the voice of Mr. Ed (uncredited)
  • Alan Young as Wilbur Post
Also, Howard Wendell would return as Mr. Reeves.  Wilbur Burns, Irving Elinson, and Phil Shuken would each write only one more episode, but Bob O'Brien would do thirty-two more.  Rod Amateau directed one more episode that year.
