Mary goes out with author Eric Matthews (Hamilton Camp, here credited as "Hamid Hamilton Camp," which I don't remember seeing in any of his other roles).  She has trouble getting past the height difference, although he bonds with Rhoda over being misfits in high school.  Oddly enough, 30 Rock would have a similar plot, with Liz Lemon dating a short man, although of course since 30R had a more exaggerated feel, that man was played by Peter Dinklage.  Almost one-third through the first season of MTM, Mary has had no serious romantic prospects, which I recall as changing in later seasons.  Note that Ted is gone (the character has the flu), so Murray substitutes for him, in a toupee, which brings some laughs.  (Pity Sue Ann wasn't yet around to remark on it.)

Robert Rothwell would also be the Floor Manager in the next episode.  This is the only MTM episode written by Gordon Mitchell and Lloyd Turner, although they did write for many other shows, including Mork & Mindy.
