The very British Michael Gambon stars as the French title character, in adaptations Georges Simenon did of his own books.  I went with the "mystery" tag rather than "crime drama" because this isn't particularly gritty, and in the first quarter hour there was a far from exciting robbery rather than the usual grisly murder.  James Cellan Jones directed two more episodes.  This is the 100th ITV show to appear on this blog, and I'm sure far from the last.
