Too much time is spent on whether Carson will reconcile with his old music hall friend Grigg, but otherwise this is an improvement over the previous episode. There's lots of scheming downstairs, while upstairs a letter from Matthew is discovered that means Mary can and should take a more active role in running Downton. Poor Anna not only is worried about Mr. Molesley but she reluctantly plays chaperone to Rose, who passes herself off as a kitchen maid at a dance in York. Oh, and Edith finally says out loud to the viewers that she loves her editor.
For a change, no new recurring characters are introduced, but there are enough to juggle as it is.
