Money is tight, so Louisa sends the children out foraging. Larry, who knows much less about guns than Leslie, goes shooting and ends up with appendicitis. With the help of the absent doctor's British wife, Florence Petridis (Lucy Black); Dr. (but not of medicine) Theo; and Theo's farmer friend, the last-name-less Sven (Ulric von der Esch), Larry pulls through. Meanwhile, Margo gets hilariously terrible advice about her unrequited crush on Max, and Gerald takes in half a dozen puppies. In the end, Larry sells a short story that will keep them afloat for awhile, financially if not at their watery meal.
