I watched only 15 minutes of the 90-minute pilot and even when it became clear that the main character was going to be posted, at his request, in Chicago, I didn't feel like continuing. I found the protagonist a bit wooden and, while the Canadian scenery was good if sometimes monochromatic, it wasn't enough to keep me watching either, and obviously the parts set in Chicago wouldn't look the same.
Fred Gerber didn't direct any other Due South episodes, but he has directed a lot in the past three decades.
