This story, the only one by Carol Gary (who wrote for Buffalo Bill, but not the episodes I reviewed), is another that shows the potential that the series has but doesn't always live up to. Amy, Debra's former coworker at the PR firm that's been mentioned once or twice, comes over and is immediately smitten with Robert. (I don't know if this is a spoiler for any of you, but IMDB lists Monica Horan as playing Amy MacDougall but then later Amy Barone). All this time I'd been assuming Robert was a lifelong bachelor still living with his parents, but it turns out he's been divorced for a year, since his wife left him for someone he arrested. He hesitates not because he's still getting over the divorce but because he thinks he's not good-looking. It turns out that not just Ray's parents but Debra thinks Robert is the handsomest in the family. As Ray observes, "What universe is this?" But he has his own insecurities about his looks, which Debra helps him through, but not until he succumbs to hair gel and a tanning booth.
