The Durrells in Corfu: Episode 1.6
The Durrells in Corfu: Episode 1.6
ITV
8 May 2016
Historical Comedy
DVD
A-
This episode manages to pull off the trick of presenting Sven as gay but hoping to "get over it" so he can have a family, while we see Louisa trying to be tolerant but also recognising she deserves a true marriage. In the end, there's a wedding party but no wedding. Larry also faces a tough choice about his relationship with Nancy, while Gerry realises that if you love someone you could set them free, or you could keep them awhile longer and learn more about them. The episode is touching but also very funny, wrapping things up nicely-- six months have been covered-- but obviously setting us up for more. (The Durrells were in Corfu for four years and a fourth series of DiC is in the works.)
As for this series, it averages out to a low B+, which is utterly remarkable. I got Series Two from the library as well, so we'll see if they can keep this high quality. I'd hate to see it crash and burn like Downton Abbey, but I doubt it will.
