A clueless cop ("He's a serial killer, he doesn't need a motive") is forced to team up with a creepy mystery writer to solve real-life crimes and I can't believe this ran for eight seasons.  It makes Bones look good.

Dan Castellaneta (from The Simpsons and Back to the Future, the Animated Series) plays Judge Markway.  James Patterson and Stephen J. Cannell appear as themselves.  Rob Bowman directed.
