This collaboration of Carmen Finestra and John Markus is an odd one. Theo offscreen does a "circus trick" with Rudy and she hits the wall! The kids try to lie about it, but Clair's cross-examination gets them to confess. So Cliff takes Rudy to the Emergency Room, taking time out to deal with the upcoming lay-offs, including of a cleaning woman named Mrs. Granger (Rita Moreno, then 55). Both threads get "happy endings," since Rudy gets a hat and attention from the nurses, and Mrs. Granger's college professor daughter is going to send her to college now. Maybe it's better when this show doesn't try to have plots.
Lou Myers would return later that year as Mr. Davis from the laundry department, so I guess he didn't get laid off after all. Alvin Lum, here Mr. Howe, the hospital administrator, wouldn't be back until '91.
