Although Clair is in the tag, the mellower parenting style of Cliff continues in this Chris Auer story, with Cliff appreciating Vanessa's honesty about a friend smoking in her room. And we see Cliff juggling three patients at the hospital with the help of an intern.
Pam Potillo returns in her occasional role of Vanessa's friend Janet Meiser. Malinda Williams, who's Althea the smoker here, would return as a different character in '90. And, yes, Mrs. Schrader is played by a pre-Home-Improvement Patricia Richardson.
