Although it takes awhile to get going, this Patric M. Verrone story from season five is one of the best. We see Fry defend Leela from a giant bee, but he dies from the stinger. Everyone is sad about the loss of Fry (Bender manages to be both funny and somehow sweet), but it is Leela who mourns most. She copes by eating hallucinatory honey, which gives her lovely if haunting dreams of Fry, where he keeps telling her to wake up. And then in the twist ending, we find out that Leela has been a coma, while Fry has talked to her, hoping she'd find comfort in his voice. This is a Fry/Leela shippy episode that isn't traditionally romantic.
