There's nothing particularly remarkable about this story by Hal Goldman  and Al Gordon (their only one for GS, although they'd write for other shows), except that no one on set apparently ever talked to a typical eight-year-old and therefore confused their behavior with three-year-olds.  A typical eight-year-old, yes, especially in the mid '60s, would be a lot savvier than this and could certainly give details on a theft rather than crying for Mommy.  After seven episodes, Get Smart has a C average and I'm stopping here.

Robert Cornthwaite makes his first of three appearances as Windish.  Scientist Frank Baker would later be a Gambler.  Organ Grinder Chester Hayes would have three more uncredited parts.  Robert Karvelas appears again as a nameless, uncredited Control Agent.  And, yes, that's Barbara Bain as Alma.
